The Problem We're Solving

53% of 7th Graders Can't Read a Simple Sentence. We're Changing That.

Meet Senthil - a 3rd grade student from Vadaveekam, a rural SC/ST Government school in Ariyalur district, Tamil Nadu. He can't recognise small or capital letters in English. He studies in a single-teacher school where one teacher handles 5 subjects across multiple standards. And he is not alone.

As per the ASER 2024 report, ~50% in class 7โ€“8 cannot read a simple class 2 level text.
6.8 million students in Tamil Nadu study in Government schools from 3rd to 8th standard.
Without intervention, these children face limited future education opportunities employability.
Who We Are

A Practical Approach to Better Learning

Kalvi40 is a program of BumbleB Trust - a non-profit organization registered in Chennai in March 2019.

Free Learning App

Free Learning App

A lightweight Android app custom-built for Tamil Nadu Government School students - delivering curriculum-aligned content in Tamil medium, designed to work even with limited internet connectivity.

Digitizing Government Classrooms

Digitizing Government Classrooms

For schools where children don't have personal devices, Kalvi40 sets up a low-cost digital classroom solution that works inside the Government school premises - accessible to every student during school hours.

Women Empowerment

Women Empowerment

Kalvi40's third pillar is a community-powered staffing model - trained local women serve as part-time teaching staff at the Government school level. This creates gainful local employment for women while ensuring that every child's learning outcomes are consistently monitored and supported.

" Parent's Review

Our children did not go to LKG/UKG, they directly joined standard 1. Whatever expectations we had, we feel that got fulfilled due to the support from Kalvi40. Whatever is taught in the private schools, that is being taught here too"

Parent Keezhakulathur
" Teachers's Review

Children who would be silent most of the time also have started to speak in my sessions. Some slow learners also have started to spell their answers loudly and want to get heard in the class.

" Student's Review

I love the daily riddles! Learning with my friends through the leaderboard makes studying fun.

Our Model

Our Long-Term Assessment Model: Built for Lasting Change

Year 1 Year 1

Lay the foundation

Digital infrastructure is set up, content is deployed, and every student undergoes a baseline assessment. One coordinator supports every 20 schools, tracking weekly progress and driving a gap-based curriculum, with teacher outcomes tied directly to student learning.

Year 2 Year 2

Build on what's working

Interim assessments identify who's progressing and who needs more support. Content is refined using real classroom data, and additional staff are brought in to sustain momentum where it's needed the most.

Year 3 Year 3

Measure the change

ASER post-assessments show exactly how far students have come. Schools that complete the programme are equipped to run independently and the data drives Kalvi40's expansion into new districts.

Women Empowerment Model

Women at the Heart of Change

In rural Tamil Nadu, women's access to stable and meaningful work remains limited, with workforce participation still around 30 to 40%. Kalvi40 addresses this by training and employing educated rural women as Teaching Coordinators, supporting classrooms while building their own skills, confidence, and independence.
